Funicular Machine Room

This historic lift has the heart of its operation at the summit of San Cristóbal.

Funicular Santiago invites you on a spectacular panoramic ride that takes you to the summit, ascending around 500 meters along the slope of San Cristóbal.

It’s a safe and enjoyable lift with a great view of the city, and it was inaugurated in 1925.

It was declared a historic monument in the year 2000, thanks to its complex cable transport system, which has been preserved since its origin, and for its significant contribution to Chilean history and heritage.

What to See in the Machine Room?

At Cumbre Station, you’ll find the Machine Room—the operations center of Funicular Santiago. Here, you can see all the wheels, gears, and mechanisms that make this historic lift work. You’ll also meet the operator, who is the person in charge of running the system.

This Machine Room is not open to the general public, but you can see it when you exit the Funicular at Cumbre Station. It features a beautiful structure designed by architect Carlos Landa.

In the surrounding area, you can also visit Bellavista Terrace and its viewpoint, enjoy the local shops and the classic mote con huesillo, and connect with the Cable Car or panoramic buses to continue exploring Parquemet.

How to Get to the Machine Room?

The easiest way is by taking the Funicular from Pío Nono Station up to Cumbre Station—a panoramic ride that takes about 5 minutes.

Another option is to take the Santiago Cable Car, get off at Cumbre Station, and walk toward Bellavista Terrace.

Without a doubt, it’s a must-do experience in Santiago, Chile!
